Terry Edwards, 80, of Edinburg, passed away on Friday, February 16, 2024, at Aperion Capitol Care in Springfield, IL.
Terry was born in Springfield on August 8, 1943, the son of Gordon and Edith (Hobbs) Edwards. He served in the United States Marines from 1963-1967 during that time he served in the Vietnam War. He was always a top level athlete. While in the service with the Marines he was also invited to play on a fast pitch softball and basketball Marine team consisting of the best athletes in that branch of service. Following his service he continued playing travel basketball and fast pitch softball for many years, playing with some of the top teams in the country. He also enjoyed coaching youth sports. He met many of his best friends along that long journey. All those that had the privilege to play sports alongside him knew how gritty and competitive he was. Many of his teammates, relatives and friends referred to him as “Butch” or “Rope”, nicknames that stuck with him for decades.
Terry also served on the Edinburg school board.
Terry enjoyed playing cards, golfing, collecting baseball cards and was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan. He worked as the parts manager for Sloan Implement for many years.
Terry is preceded in death by his parents, and daughter, Monica Edwards.
He is survived by his sons, Robert and TJ (Shay Gorbett) Edwards; sister, Judy Bandy; nephew, Von (Deanna) Bandy and niece Tammy (Gary) Shawgo.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 22, at Wilson Park Funeral Home 200 E. Main St. in Rochester, from 10:00AM until the time of the funeral service at 11:30. Burial will follow at Edinburg Cemetery in Edinburg.
Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital or the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
