Laurene J. Wilson, 99, of Springfield, passed away on Sunday, May 29, 2016 at Memorial Medical Center.

Laurene was born on July 27, 1916 in Johnsonville, the daughter Omer W. and Lora Johnson Jones. She married Harry C. Wilson, Jr on January 1, 1936 in Murphysboro; he preceded her in death on February 14, 1999.

She attended Southern Illinois Normal University in Carbondale, IL. She delivered the first Meals on Wheels in Springfield. She survived the March 18, 1925 Tri State Tornado that hit Murphysboro.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and attended regularly until health problems prevented her attendance. She was also a member and supporter of the United Methodist Women.

She was also preceded in death by one son, Steve J. Wilson.

She is survived by three sons, Donald D. (wife, Linda) Wilson of Springfield, William H. (wife, Marikay) Wilson of Cleveland, MS and John T. (wife, Cynthia) Wilson of North Richland Hills, TX; eleven grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Cremation was accorded.  Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the memorial service at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 23, 2016 at First United Methodist Church with Reverend Nicole Cox officiating.

Burial will be at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, July 25, 2016 at Oak Ridge Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church or the Illinois Presbyterian Home.
