Jean Logue Obituary

Jean Evelyn (Mrs Russell) Logue, 101, of Springfield, Illinois, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, passed away peacefully from complications resulting from a stroke, on Saturday, June 16, 2019.  Jean was born March 14, 1918 in Chicago, IL. to Anna and John P. Jeffrey.  Memorial Service on Friday, July 5, at 1:30 pm at Cotton Hill United Methodist Church, 5931 Springfield, IL and graveside services at Casey Cemetery on July 6, 1:30 pm, Casey, IL.

As a child, Jean enjoyed many summers helping her mother, Anna, sister, Garnet, and three brothers, Lowell, Pete, and Calvin, with chores on their family farm near Letts, Iowa.  There she learned to be both a great cook and a legendary baker. She showed great love and care in her cooking for others. Her mother, siblings and their families stayed close to her heart throughout all her life.  In high school, Jean proved to be a serious student with an interest in the violin. Her love for music, was another of love of her life, only surpassed by a handsome student at Cornell College named Russell Logue their freshman year. Jean and Russ soon fell in love, married, and moved to Casey, where their first child, Eleanor was born.  Like millions of Americans, their lives were battered by the winds of war.  Russ was called to join the Army and shipped to Okinawa soon after their second child, Jeff, was born. The war was over, but the ship still sailed.  Russ returned home soon to help run their family telephone company in Casey.  Don and Anne were born later.  Once Anne began school, Jean returned to college to finish her B.S. in History, continuing on to earn a M.A. in Music.  For 50 more years, she taught piano and organ, took various music leadership roles in each United Methodist Church she attended. Russ retired and they moved to Springfield, IL where she continued to teach piano,  directing church camp, choir, hand bell choir and children’s productions. Sadly, in the care of his wife and Eleanor, Russ passed in 1999, and Jean moved to St. Louis, near Don and wife, Carol and grandchildren, finding comfort in family, church and teaching.  In 2004, she moved to Farmington, NM, cared for by Jeff and wife, Elaine, continuing church work and teaching.  Poor sight finally forced her to retire from teaching music and move to Springfield, near Anne and Flora, where Jean received the assisted living care she needed in the final chapter of a life well lived. Thanks be to God!
