Dorothy Irene (Smith) Sexton

Dorothy Irene Sexton, 82, of Mechanicsburg, passed away on Friday, May 13, 2022 at her home surrounded by her loved ones.

Dorothy was born in Mt. Auburn, IL, on October 12, 1939, the daughter of Edward and Nora (Prior) Smith. She married Charles Sexton at the Mechanicsburg Christian Church on November 24, 1961. After graduating from Tri-City High School, Dorothy attended Brown’s Business College in Springfield. She was a member of the Dawson Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star, Junior Women’s Club of Mechanicsburg and the Mechanicsburg Christian Church. Before retiring from the Farmers State Bank of Buffalo, she worked for Franklin Life Insurance Co. of Springfield, Ernst & Ernst Accounting of Springfield, Land of Lincoln Life Insurance Company and the Sangamon County Recorder of Deeds Office. Dorothy also provided a part time contractual home health service.

Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Billie and Donald Smith.

She is survived by her husband, Charles; son, Glen (Sally) Sexton; and daughter, Gitana (Todd) Fishburn; grandchildren, Natalie and Elizabeth Sexton, and Lathe (Ashley), Brock (Megan) and Grace Faye Fishburn; great grandchildren, Adalynn and Conrad Fishburn, and one on the way in September; brother, Darrell (Delores) Smith; sister in law, Melva Jo Sexton, as well as a several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 19, at Fullenwider-Park Funeral Home, from 11:00AM until the time of the Funeral Service at 12:00PM with Reverend Robert Twist officiating. Burial will follow at Mechanicsburg Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
