Larry R. Watkins, Sr., 78, of Mechanicsburg, passed away on Friday, February 11, 2022 at Taylorville Skilled Nursing and Rehab. Larry was born on May 27, 1943, in Springfield, the son of Elmer Ray and Venetta Fern (Wake) Watkins.
Larry enjoyed racing, snowmobiling, flea markets, and was a real wheeler and dealer. He was an integral part and loved to give back to his community, whether it was through assisting with car shows, town festivals or even putting on the fireworks display each year, which started doing in 1968 before retiring in 2018.
Larry is preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Barbara Jo (Mills); second wife, Karen (Patton) Watkins; two sisters, Jan Lowery and Joyce Bennett; one brother, Lyle Watkins and twin great grandsons Gatlin and Wesson Smith.
He is survived by his two children, Larry (Karen) Watkins II and Melisa Galloway; step-children, Patti (Ron) Beaman, Debi (Robert) Matthews, Lester Edwards, and Bob (Dana) Edwards; brother, LeRoy ( soulmate, Stevie Benedict) Watkins; and sister, Jacquie (Don) Kirby, as well as several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be on Saturday, February 19 from 10:00AM until the time of the funeral service at 12:00PM at South Tower Community Church, 1350 S. Tower Road in Dawson, with Reverend Charlie Carver officiating.
Cremation will be accorded after the service and a graveside service will on July 4, 2022 at 12:00PM at Mechanicsburg Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to South Tower Community Church.
