Mariam "Luba" Carls

Mariam “Luba” Carls, 81, of Springfield, IL passed away on November 27, 2022 at Heritage Manor in Beardstown, IL.

Mariam was born in Iran on December 27, 1940 the daughter of Kasoo and Elisha Benofamil. 

As a young teenager, Mariam left Iran to train as a Midwife in the United Kingdom. Upon moving to Springfield, IL to live with her sister Lena, she met and fell in love with her future husband Ernest Carls. Ernest and Mariam were married on November 16, 1974 at the Church of Little Flower in Springfield and they were married for over 40 years. They were inseparable.

Mariam received her Master’s Degree in Nursing and worked in the Maternity Ward at St. John’s Hospital for over 30 years. She was proud of her work delivering babies and caring for mothers.

She is survived by her sister, Lena Travis; sister in law, June Conner; several nieces and nephews that live in Illinois, California, Florida and Missouri.

Mariam was preceded in death by her husband; parents; and several brothers and sisters.

Memorial donations may be made to the Church of Little Flower where Ernest and Mariam went to church for many years.  

A viewing will be held at Wilson Park Funeral Home, 200 E. Main St. Rochester, IL 62563 on Saturday December 3, 2022 from 2:00pm to 3:00pm. A graveside service will follow at Rochester Cemetery.
