John L. Cook, 87, of Decatur and formerly of Springfield, passed away Thursday, February 14, 2019 at Imboden Creek Living Center in Decatur.
He was born August 19, 1931 in Buffalo, IL the son of Glen and Annabelle Young Cook. His parents preceded him in death.
John served in the US Army during the Korean War. During his service he received the Occupational Medal and the National Defense Service Medal.
He retired from Fiat-Allis after many years working as a welder. After his retirement he worked for the State of Illinois in maintenance.
John enjoyed listening to music, especially jazz and blues, and loved cars. He was always willing to help a friend.
He is survived by three children, Linda (Robert) Fisher, Shirley (Frank) Richardson, and Pastor John L. (Rio) Cook Jr. all of Decatur; five grandchildren, Dr. Kimberly Walker, Holly Richardson-Franklin, Andrew Richardson, John Cook, and Mariah Cook; three great grandchildren, Sadie, Nathan, and Carter; and a brother, Gene Cook.
Family would like to thank all the staff at Imboden Creek Living Center for the wonderful care they gave John.
Visitation will be from 6:00 pm until the time of the memorial service at 7:00 pm. on Thursday, February 21, 2019 at Ellinger-Kunz & Park Funeral Home with Pastor John L. Cook, Jr. officiating. Interment will be held at Camp Butler National Cemetery at 11:00 am on Friday, February 22, 2019.
