Robert A. Silger, 97, of Springfield, died Thursday November 14, at St. John’s Hospital. Robert was born December 1, 1921 in Carlyle, Illinois to Gustav and Theresia Scheppel Silger. He graduated from Carlyle High School in 1940. He chose to give his life to the Lord at age 17, and kept true to the commitment all his life. He served in the US Army-air force from November 1942 to February 1946 at which time he was honorably discharged. He was united in marriage with Virginia Madeline Talley on October 26, 1944. Virginia preceded him in death in November 2003. He was employed by the State of Illinois for many years as an internal auditor, retiring in 1982. He also served as Secretary Treasurer of the ISEA for many years, of which he was a founding member. He married Una Bernice Spinner on April 22, 2004.
He is survived by his wife, Una Bernice of Springfield; and daughters, Jeanette (Carl) Mitchell of Springfield, Carolyn (Don) Manley of Lincoln, Nancy (Myron) Vigessa of Kensal ND, and Linda (Rick) Swanson of Malcom IA; 12 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and sister, Louise Silger of Centralia IL.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia; his parents; and his father-in-law, Harley Talley.
Visitation will be held at Ellinger-Kunz and Park Funeral Home, 530 N. 5th St. Springfield IL 62702 on Friday November 22, 2019 from 5pm till 8pm. The funeral service will take place the following morning on Saturday November 23, 2019 at 10am. A graveside service will be held at 3pm at Carlyle Cemetery in Carlyle Illinois later that afternoon.
