Dorothy Fleming Obituary

Dorothy Rose Fleming, lovingly known as “Dottie” and “Grandottie” was born on April 17th, 1931 in Anson, Maine to her parents John Longley and Goldie Porter. She passed away peacefully on December 15th, 2021. She was dearly loved by her family, late husband, close friends, and a few very lucky rescue cats.

One of five children, Dottie made it a priority to stay in close contact with her brother and sisters over the years. Her two daughters, Jenna Sampson (Steve) and Alyson Allen, along with her four grandchildren, Jacob Sampson, Corey Sampson, Alexys Allen, and Kaitlyn Allen were her pride and joy. She never missed a birthday phone call, and always documented family time together with one of her numerous disposable cameras. Dottie would also send a card in the mail for the smallest of occasions, just so you knew she was thinking of you. Dottie had a heart of gold, and no one left her house without a big hug and a kiss on the cheek.

Each day, Dottie found joy in the small pleasures of life. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, card games (her favorite was Gin Rummy), watching the Game Show Network, and cheering on her favorite NASCAR racers. She also loved bird watching, and would excitedly announce each red and yellow finch that landed outside her window. Dottie would often reminisce on her years spent in Maine, and was well-known for her East-Coast accent and lighthouse collection. She donated many of her favorite items to the Lighthouse Family Restaurant in Rochester, Illinois, one of her favorite breakfast spots.

Dottie’s witty sense of humor, caring touch, and positive outlook will be sorely missed. Everyone who met her is a better person because of it.

Her funeral service will be held on Wednesday, December 29th at 11:00 am at  Wilson Park Funeral Home, followed by a burial service at Rochester Cemetery and a celebration of life at the Elks Lodge #158.

In lieu of flowers, her family suggests donations to the Animal Protective League in Springfield, Illinois in her name.
