Obey “Gene” Woodson, 74, of Riverton, IL passed away on Wednesday September 22, 2021 at the Villas in Sherman.

Gene was born in Albany, KY on February 6, 1947 the son of Samuel and Pearl (Daley) Woodson. Gene married Debra J Smith on May 25, 1974 in Springfield, IL. On November 14, 1984, they had a daughter, Carissa J. Woodson. He drove trucks for National By-Products Inc. in Mason City, IL for 30 plus years, retiring in 2004. For most of his life, Gene was an avid hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed caring for his cats, drinking coffee, reading, working in the yard, and gardening. Gene was a Chicago Cubs fan all of his life; he was thrilled when he got to see them finally win the World Series. Gene was a great father and an even better “Papa” to his grandson.  

Gene is survived by his wife, Debra; daughter, Carissa (husband, Jason) Pfeiffer; grandson, Carson; brothers, Howard, Sam, and Jerry (wife, Sharon); a sister, Patti; as well as many extended family members and close friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and 2 sisters Virginia Christine Martin and Geneva Armstong.  

Private funeral services are being held at Ellinger-Kunz and Park Funeral Home in Springfield, IL.

Memorial donations may be made to the Riverton Village Library, 1200 Riverton Rd, Riverton, IL 62561.
