Phyllis Elston Obituary

Phyllis Sue (Burchett) Elston, 74, of Divernon, IL passed away in Springfield on December 28, 2021. Phyllis was born in Decatur, IL on December 10, 1947 the daughter of Paul O. and Margaret V. (Kerr) Burchett. She married Davey J. Elston on April 15, 1966 in Pontiac, IL and together they were married for 55 years.  

Phyllis was a member of Grace Baptist Church and she was a great giver of her time. She had many different careers throughout her life, but was finally a caregiver for a dear friend of hers. She volunteered at the food banks and her church.

Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Margaret Burchett of Mt. Auburn; sister, Dorothy Hornbeck of Springfield and a son, Davey Joe Elston Jr. of Lincoln.

She is survived by her husband, Davey Joe Elston Sr. of Divernon, daughter, Debbie (Kevin) Elston of Mechanicsburg; daughter, Jennie (David) Girup of Mt. Auburn; son, Jason Elston of Divernon; 5 Grandchildren; 7 Great Grandchildren; 4 brothers, Vernon (Sharon) Burchett, Paul (Ester) Burchett, Robert (Mable) Burchett, and Richard (Paula) Burchett; sisters, Virginia Swiney, Mary Ann (Jack) Workman, Linda (Tom) Vono, and Joyce Burchett; as well as many extended family members.

Visitation will be held at Wilson Park Funeral Home, 200 East Main St. Rochester, IL 62563 on Tuesday January 4, 2021. Visitation will be from 4:00pm till the time of the memorial service at 6:00pm. Pastor Thad Peacock will be officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.
