Richard L Powell

Richard L. Powell, 75, of Springfield, passed away on Sunday, April 2, 2023 at his residence. Rick was born in Springfield, IL on March 14, 1948, the son of Teddy Connor and Martina Goacher. He married Judy Fry on February 11, 1979 and she survives. Rick worked for CWLP as a waterworks Class A Engineer. He served in the US Army during Viet Nam from 1965-1966. He was a member of VFW Post 10302, International Union Operating Engineers and was a 32nd Degree Master Mason with St Paul Masonic Lodge #500. Rick was an avid collector of WW2 memorabilia and enjoyed going to garage sales, flea markets and always had trinkets to show off and had the best jokes to share. Rick loved spending time in his yard and playing with his grandchildren. He was one unforgettable character, everybody loved Rick. 

He is preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Terry Connor.

Rick is survived by his wife, Judy; daughter, Erica (Josh) Ash; sons, Shane Powell and John (Lisa) Powell; grandchildren, Liam, James and Aurora Ash and  Nicole, Evan, Ryan & Emilee Powell; as well as three sisters, Sharen Ward, Debbie Funk and Diane Feltus as well as many nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held at Camp Butler National Cemetery on Monday, April 10, 2023 at 2:00PM where the Inter-Veterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County will perform military honors.

Memorial donations may be made to the family.
