Richard C. Schroeder

Richard C. Schroeder, 73, of Springfield, IL passed away at home on Saturday February 4, 2023.

Richard was born in Springfield on November 12, 1949 and was the son of Frank and Marjorie (Farley) Schroeder. He married Gloria J. Nichols. After graduating from Lanphier High School, Richard joined and served in the United States Army as a Mechanic.

After his military service ended, Richard worked as an Iron Worker for Union Local 46 and mechanic for the rest of his working career.

Working on cars was his passion. Richard also enjoyed collecting various items.  He has a very large family and is greatly missed by those that love him.

Richard is survived by his wife, Gloria; 10 children, Richelle (Scott) Loftus, Marshall (Kerry) Dyer, Rich (Cinthia) Dyer, Johnella (Jeff) Gettings, Monica (John) Gettings, Crystal (Mitchell) Wheeler, Melanie Cox-Ohara, Nanci (Alan) Cox, Teresa (Mark) Foster, and Yvonne Ledbetter; 32 Grandchildren, 51 Great Grandchildren; sisters, Carol (Ralph) Hastie, Judith (Darrell) Rench, Kathleen Schroeder, and Laura Matrisch; as well as many extended family members.

He was preceded in death by his Son, his Parents; 2 Grandchildren, 1 Great Grandchild; as well as numerous brothers and sisters.

Cremation services will be accorded and a Visitation will be held on Monday February 13, 2023 at Ellinger-Kunz and Park Funeral Home, 530 North 5th St. Springfield, IL 62702 from 10:00am till the time of the Memorial Service at 12:00pm. Richard will be laid to rest at Camp Butler National Cemetery following the Memorial Service where he will receive Military Funeral Honors.
