Samuel Bruce Davis (Samb), Buffalo, Illinois, passed away September 20, 2021 at Lewis Memorial Village. He was born May 14, 1953 to Samuel Verle Davis and Carole Joan (Kitchen) Davis. He attended Tri-City High School, SIU Carbondale, and UIS. He was enlisted in the Air Force and stationed in England.
Sam (Bruce) was a prolific poet, writer, film maker, photographer and artist. He lived life as an adventure, traveling the country as a fortune teller with Renaissance Fairs, interviewing interesting characters on his public radio shows (Flyover Zone and Sam & Danz at Dawn), meeting celebrities at ComicCon events, marching in Steam Punk Parades, baking donuts in Carbondale, enjoying poetry readings with friends, and serving as a staff photographer for the Illinois State Legislature. Sam taught film, art, photography, and English at local community colleges and Benedictine College and worked with the disabled at Brother James Court in Springfield until he was sidelined by health issues. Samb will be sorely missed by his family, friends, and fans.
He is survived by his daughter, Erica Ragan (Dan), mother Joan Davis, brothers Jeff and Pat Davis, sisters Vicki Davis and Terri Davis Anderson (Craig), two uncles, numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father, Samuel V. Davis.
Services will be held Monday, September 27, 2021 at Fullenwider Park Funeral Home in Mechanicsburg, Illinois, with visitation at 10:00, services at 11:30, and burial at Camp Butler National Cemetery at 1:00.
